Welcome to Beacon 3D and the 2015 exhibition – now in its third year, Beacon 3D is an annual outdoor public art event from May 15 through October 15th. We hope you will join us for the official opening and ribbon-cutting with Mayor Randy Casale to take place on Second Saturday, June 13th at 2 Way Brewing Company, 18 West Main Street at 2 pm.
The following 20 artists will exhibit one sculpture along or near Main Street in Beacon, NY: Kenneth Wright, Naomi Teppich, Jennifer Smith, Judy Sigunick, Peter Schlemowitz, Judith Kepner Rose, Jon Reichert, Rosemarie Oakman, Franc Palaia, Lori Merhige, Maria Lago, Matt Kinney, Insun Kim, Sarah Haviland, Ian George, Geoff Feder, Charlie Engelman, Ada Pilar Cruz, John BonSignore and Ed Benavente. We are pleased to include the work of 10 new artists to this year’s roster as well as to introduce new site sponsors around the city where the sculptures may be viewed: 2 Way Brewing Company/18 West Main Street; Trendy Tots Take Two/296 Main; Cafe Amarcord/276 Main; Gianetta Salon & Spa/1158 North Avenue (9D); RiverWinds/172 Main St and Key Food/268 Main St. Thank you all for your support and contribution in making this a true sculpture trail along Main!
All of the sculptures are for sale and all of the proceeds go to the artist. There is no commission taken by anyone. You are free to negotiate the price with the artist themselves. Please contact me for a price list either by phone (917.318.2239) or by email (email@example.com). Beacon 3D has asked the artists to consider making a small donation back to the project when a sculpture is sold.
The purpose of Beacon 3D is to provide and enhance the community’s access and enjoyment of art in a free, long-term installation as well as to promote and highlight the work of a diverse range of actively-engaged artists. Many of the sculptures in this year’s exhibition are brand new fabrications. One of the most important purposes of the project is to provide a significant opportunity – not just for established and mid-career artists – but also for emerging artists – to participate in a curated, professionally-produced exhibition. For some artists here, this is their first public art exhibition.
This year we will introduce a free, downloadable app developed specifically for the 2015 exhibition by Eric Feinstein, founder and creator of Otocast, LLC. Viewers will be able to scan the bar code with their smartphone and listen to a brief statement about the sculpture in the artist’s own voice.
Our fiscal sponsor is BeaconArts, a 501c3 non-profit organization now over 10 years active in supporting the arts and promoting Beacon as a cultural destination (beaconarts.org). In 2014, Beacon 3D, just in its second year, was awarded the Dutchess County Arts Award for Art in Public Places, a program of Arts Mid-Hudson now celebrating over 50 years of service to the arts community (artsmidhudson.org).
If you would like to help support this project by becoming a sponsor, we would be grateful. All of your contributions are tax deductible! For any inquiries about the sculptures and the exhibition, please feel free to contact me.
Enjoy the exhibition!
