As you know, we lost a very dear friend and a hugely talented artist this past April – Judy Sigunick. Judy participated in Beacon 3D in three consecutive years – 2014, 2015 and 2016 – with her lyrical and poetical sculptures inspired by Shakespeare. Judy was also an artist whose work I exhibited every chance I had, in group shows, and in one solo show, at my gallery, TheoGanz Studio, on Main Street.
Judy was the most petite figure you could imagine, and there she was, lifting these very heavy ceramic pieces from her studio up in Cragsmoor to the different venues here in Beacon and then, literally spending hours of installation time at the site, piecing these sculptures together with the meticulous care she was known for.
Beacon 3D 2019 is dedicated to her memory, to the joy and dedication she brought to everything she did and the friendship she bestowed on all who knew her.

As founder and director of Beacon 3D, an annual art in public places exhibition in Beacon, New York, I am pleased to announce that the following 20 artists have been selected to show their work in the third annual edition to take place May 15 – October 15, 2015:
Ken Wright, Naomi Teppich, Judy Sigunick, Jennifer Smith, Peter Schlemowitz, Judith Kepner Rose, Jon Reichert, Franc Palaia, Rosemarie Oakman, Lori Merhige, Maria Lago, Matt Kinney, Insun Kim, Sarah Haviland, Ian George, Geoff Feder, Charlie Engelman, Ada Pilar Cruz, John BonSignore and Ed Benavente.
I would like to thank all the artists who sent in a proposal for this year’s exhibition and only say that I am sorry I could not have accepted more work. As it stands now, I am still scrambling to secure sites for those sculptures which have been selected. We have 10 sculptors returning from the 2014 edition and we welcome 10 new artists to this year’s roster. 11 are from Beacon and 9 are from Peekskill, Cold Spring, Damascus, PA, Wappinger Falls and Poughkeepsie areas. The work selected is in a diverse range of materials and many of the sculptures will be brand new fabrications as illustrated by the sketch below by artist Jon Reichert:
We are pleased to announce that the Beacon 3D 2014 catalog is released and available for purchase. A full-color catalog with all 12 sculptures from the 2014 exhibition are here along with artists’ sketches, installation shots, and other photos – in other words – a visual record of the 5 months. They are available for just $15. at RiverWinds Gallery and Theo Ganz Studio. Sponsors, volunteers and the 12 artists receive a complimentary copy!
If you are an actively engaged working sculptor and are interested in exhibiting one of your works in our five-month long annual exhibition (May 15 – Oct 15 2015) please download the pdf application and see if this is something that works for you. We are accepting proposals for 3D outdoor art through January 15, 2015.
2 things you might like to know:
We are very excited about this upcoming year as we have plans to have an audio app so that viewers can listen to a short talk by the artists on their work. This is a new undertaking for us but one we feel will address the public’s curiosity about the sculptures in a more accessible and immediate manner.
We are also very pleased to acknowledge that in 2014, Beacon 3D received the Dutchess County Executive’s Arts Award for Art in Public Places. We thank Arts Mid-Hudson for this program and honor.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
You may scan and return this to me via email.
Thanks! and best wishes in all your creative endeavors!
